What Is Neonatology?

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics dedicated to the medical care of newborns who are premature, have low birth weight, or are born with complex medical conditions. Neonatologists are specially trained to provide advanced care for fragile infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where immediate and ongoing support can make all the difference in a child’s health and development.

What Is Neonatal Medicine?

Neonatal medicine refers to the full scope of medical care provided to newborns in their first weeks of life. This includes everything from routine screenings and feeding support to advanced treatments for premature or critically ill infants. It ensures that babies—no matter how early or fragile—receive the specialized attention they need for the best possible start.

Who Are Neonatal Specialists?

Neonatal specialists are healthcare professionals trained to care for newborns with unique medical needs. This team includes neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal nurses, respiratory therapists, and other experts who work together to support infants and families in the NICU and beyond. Their combined expertise ensures comprehensive, compassionate, and family-centered care every step of the way.

At Solara Neonatal, we combine world-class expertise with compassionate, family-centered care — ensuring that every newborn and family has the resources they need from the moment of delivery through the transition home.
