What Is Tubal Ligation?

Tubal ligation is a permanent form of birth control in which the fallopian tubes are removed or cut and sealed. It prevents the egg from traveling to the uterus during the menstrual cycle.

How Effective Is Tubal Ligation?

Tubal ligation is highly effective. There’s less than a 0.1 percent risk of pregnancy within 10 years of your tubal ligation procedure. Just know that if you decide to become pregnant after this procedure, it can be difficult or even impossible to reverse.
